Government Advocacy

We work to engage all levels of the U.S. government to elevate the stories of those who are wrongfully detained in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. From individual cases to high level policy development, we prioritize a bipartisan approach to human rights and work to leverage U.S. influence to assist victims and their families.

Success Story

In 2021, our work helped bring together members of the U.S. House of Representatives who launched the Egypt Human Rights Caucus, led by co-chairs Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) and Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ).

Advocacy Summit 2022

Our flagship event is our annual Advocacy Summit 2022 which provides advocacy training to hundreds of people across the country committed to centering human rights in the U.S.-Egypt relationship. In 2021, The Freedom Initiative held its third annual EAD for more than 200 trainees across 33 states, resulting in dozens of constituent meetings urging policymakers to hold Egypt accountable for rights abuses.

We believe everyone has the power to become an advocate.

Advocacy Training

Throughout 2022, we will be conducting small-group advocacy trainings to empower members of any community to become an advocate on human rights issues.
