The 2018 Egyptian presidential elections were mired with controversy
The 2018 Egyptian presidential elections were mired with controversy. The Egyptian government was adamant about encouraging participation to legitimize ElSisi’s win. The #متنزلش campaign was directed at people in Egypt and within the diaspora to highlight the adverse costs of voting. Low turnout soured ElSisi’s landslide victory and shed light on the fraud involved in his reelection. Our campaign was shared widely by Egyptian activists and influencers such as Tarek Hussein, Maha Azzam, and Haytham Abukhalil.
