#DelayTheVote

On June 23, 2020, The Freedom Initiative, along with other non-governmental organizations, sent a letter to the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Directors.

The IMF should delay a vote on a US$5.2 billion loan to Egypt scheduled for June 26, 2020 until rigorous anti-corruption requirements are included in the program and the loan terms are made public.

This letter comes from eight non-governmental organizations that have been monitoring and documenting restrictions on civil society, constraints on judicial independence, continuing corruption, and poor governance practices in Egypt.

The request to #DelayTheVote will help ensure that this $5.2 billion loan achieves its intended purposes – help the Egyptian people.
