Bahey Eldin Hassan

Bahey Eldin Hassan is one of the founders of the Egyptian human rights movement in the 1980s and the cofounder of several Egyptian and international human rights institutions. In addition to being a board member of several international human rights organizations, Hassan serves as the Director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) – a non-governmental organization with a geographic mandate focusing on the Arab region- which he cofounded in 1993. In 2014, after receiving death threats for his human rights work, Hassan had to leave Egypt and currently lives in exile in France.
